How to do good as a real estate agent this holiday season

The holidays are just as much about giving as they are receiving. Make sure you take some time to give back to the community you work in by participating in a charitable effort this holiday season. While the pandemic may limit in-person activities, there are still plenty of things you can do to help. Here are a few ideas.

Support local businesses

If sending out holiday gifts is a normal part of your routine, consider opting to purchase gifts from local businesses this year. With the pandemic closing non-essential stores in many parts of the country, small businesses are struggling to keep afloat. So skip the big box retailers and online distributors for a local curbside pick-up or delivery from a neighbourhood business. And you can support local operations not just through the gift itself but when purchasing greeting cards, boxes and packaging too.

Donate to local charities

With many families and individuals struggling this year because of the pandemic, giving to local charities has become all-the-more important. Consider making a donation to a worthy cause, such as a shelter, a community food organization or a children’s charity. By sharing news about your donation to your social media channels, you can also encourage clients and followers to make their own donations too.

Hold a donation drive

Items such as warm winter clothing, jackets and children’s toys are commonly collected at workplaces or shopping malls. But many of these locations are closed this year. Instead, if you’re able to, you could consider offering your garage or porch as a collection point for the safe drop-off and pick-up of donated gently-used goods. Announcing the donation drive may help to encourage more donations from your network that might not have known about the need otherwise. Alternatively, clients that might not be able to drive a long distance to a centralized drop-off point may appreciate that you are able to collect and deliver the items to a charity or agency.
